Number 62 From "52 Days, 63 Poems"

Have you ever seen
The moon so full
So big
So bright
The horizon is its dwarf
It sits in the sky
Immense and alone
With you and me its only companions
And subtle breezes
Carry close the humming
Of mosquitoes
That would eat us alive
If it weren’t for the fact
That tonight
She has chosen us
To bathe in her light.
And shadows lie
Where they should not
Even penumbra appear
Formed by the pale household’s wakefulness
Glistening around a crown of stars
Confirms her royalty and ascendancy
Scattered in her rising wake
The joyful reflections off rooftops and windows
Of her own sunlit glory
Most nights I would simply say,
“Take a look at the moon”
But tonight,
With you here
Something is different
And everything is amazing
