love
Saturday Mornings
Saturday mornings
It's newspapers and coffee
Toast and jam and tea
We sit on the back porch
And a song constantly plays
In my mind
The words silently forming their shape
On my lips
It is a love song
And while I'm not fully aware of it
It shapes my sense of completeness
She Visits Me
My sense of leftness
Has lost its potency
There is the time of the world around me
There is the time of world inside me
There is the time of history behind me
There is the time (stood still) of the aged care facility
I now spend my time in
There is the time (an eternity - or so it seems) of waiting for the future
That will be
Although they are enmeshed and entwined
They don't synchronise anymore
I cannot tell which is the one
I need to believe
Which is reality
Which is the memory
Which is the dream.
Somewhere I sense that she has died
Maybe four or five years ago
Maybe last week
Maybe tomorrow
My damaged mind
Refuses to let me know
To reassure me
To convince me one way or the other
As a fact
I think she was here
Only last night
My arm was trembling
And full of pins and needles
And she was there
To comfort me
To reassure me
That if it was still a trouble tomorrow
We could always make an appointment
And drive to the doctors
That would have to be in the car
I'm going to have to sell
Two years ago
And arthritis
Refuses to let me steer
Without the pain of fear
And she couldn't drive
That car -
We no longer owned it
And she had died
I know at times
I can be a grumpy old shit
But she brings me
Joy, happiness, peace, reassurance and clarity
Everytime
She visits me

Have you ever seen
The moon so full
So big
So bright
The horizon is its dwarf
It sits in the sky
Immense and alone
With you and me its only companions
And subtle breezes
Carry close the humming
Of mosquitoes
That would eat us alive
If it weren’t for the fact
That tonight
She has chosen us
To bathe in her light.
And shadows lie
Where they should not
Even penumbra appear
Formed by the pale household’s wakefulness
Glistening around a crown of stars
Confirms her royalty and ascendancy
Scattered in her rising wake
The joyful reflections off rooftops and windows
Of her own sunlit glory
Most nights I would simply say,
“Take a look at the moon”
But tonight,
With you here
Something is different
And everything is amazing

Flow of consciousness
Meander from my pen
If anything so magical
Were to occur
I wish it were
Right now
The depth of the sunlight
In all its hue and saturation
Is the entirety of the richness
Your moment brings to me
Take me backstage
Treat me to the VIP pampering
“Exclusive-ise” me
I am your only one today
And we are fantastic
When we are together
If you only take a moment
To smile at me
Acknowledge me with a secret sign
Let me know you
Have seen me in your crowd
I will be almighty
I will be super natural
I will be alive and more
The completeness of this universe
Would reside in our moment of connection
The secret we would share
Would be that covert tick of eternity
The distraction of all else
Would be lost in the awareness of our coexistence

Hum
I hear it
Everywhere I go
Sweet ambience
Of the universe
Whispering awareness
Into my consciousness
Patterns of humanity
Disrupt the
Patterns of chaos
There is more
Perfection
In the numbers of nature
The equations
Of the natural
Than any thought
I ever had
My thoughts
Give rise
To anomalies
Incomplete
In my lacking
But all around
In this sunflower
This tree
This nautilus
This leaf
In the beauty of your face
There is a ratio
Of pure gold
That arises
From its own
Being
And not
From what
It has tried
To be
A thread
Falls from my jumper
A button
Loosens
And is lost
Another lace
Breaks
I stop
And listen –
Hum
I hear it
Everywhere I go
Sweet ambience
Of the universe
Whispering
